The Ontario RAT 5 is a very well rounded survival knife with a myriad of uses and applications. The RAT 5 fixed blade knife is 10.75" in overall length, a bit larger than the RAT 3 Knife by almost a couple of inches. The blade on the RAT 5 knife is 1095 carbon steel like all the RAT Fixed blade Knives, but is flat ground with a 4.75" cutting edge and is .187" in thickness. The canvas Micarta handle is also in keeping with the other RAT Fixed blade knives.
One other very useful feature of the RAT 5 Fixed blade knife is what Ontario refers to as a "Skull Crusher" pommel. The pommel could in fact be used for many other tasks such as hammering or glass breaking.... among other things.
There are two options for carrying the RAT 5 Fixed Blade knife: using the lanyard hole at the butt of the knife or with the included lined cordura sheath.
The Ontario RAT 5 knife is a plain edge.
The Ontario RAT 5 knife is made in the USA.

Editor's Review of the Ontario Rat 5 Fixed Blade Knife by Jeff Randall: June 2010
I would take the Ontario Rat 5 fixed blade knife into the jungle with me any day of the week! The Rat 5 knife is rugged, strong and well balanced. Key features of the Rat 5 knife that make it such a great survival knife are the skull crusher pommel, a fat bellied full tang blade and the molded sheath. You can tell the Rat 5 will withstand some heavy use and make quick work of chopping and slicing tasks. At under $100 -- it's a sure bet!
